Model is Jessica F. She's a stripper from a club up in Pittsburgh and was explaining to me that she couldn't do any "really cool poses" because my studio doesn't have a pole. She was clowning around and mimed how she'd fall on her face if she tried, and I fired a quick snap-shot while she was in mid-movement. Her friend Laura, who was just out of the frame, caught her as she stumbled. Normally, my images are carefully constructed, but when an accident like this happens, well, I'll take it.

Technicalz:
B/w conversion in photoshop, dust speck removal, and tattoo removal. Lit with a pair of softboxes, lined up left of scene, with one firing horizontally and the other high up, angled downward.

Very nice, +fav

THe desciption made me like it even more, and the hand gesture ("guns!") makes the pose really unique and awesome!

Her hands are exquisite, expressive...more than a bit of the artist and artistry there.

I hope she viewed this photo and reconsidered her apology for her lack of "coolness" when posing.

Serendipity is often miraculous. I've always put great stock in the old adage: "I'd rather be lucky than good."

But you're good, too. Nice job.

Thank you :D i have read through the both stock rules & would like to thank you for making your work available to artists, the way you have. I'm doing a time-lapse video of the painting process & was wondering if it would be alright with you if i posted it on sites like youtube or conceptart.org?

Are most of your models strippers and such? That's brilliant! I was wondering why they all had SUCH beautiful bodies. I'm so envious... and yet inspired.

Only a few are strippers - strippers are really a pain in the ass to work with. Most of them are professional art models that I hire from websites like modelmayhem.com

Aah, ok.

They are soo beautiful. I love your lighting techniques.

Why are they so difficult to work with?

Well, strippers are used to making $20 for a lapdance, and the really attractive ones can bring home $3,000 a night or more depending on how hard they work it. Stripping isn't easy work (not by a long shot) but neither is modelling for a photographer - and photography leaves behind evidence that "you used to get naked for a living." So a lot of strippers see modelling for photographers as not paying enough.

Sometimes I've asked strippers to pose and gotten a fairly warm response. But I've also had "Sure, well, I make $2,000 a night so you'd have to pay me at least that.." Yeah, right.

I have (I think) cracked the stripper code, though. I went to a strip club a few months ago with a photographer buddy and we were drinking and doing a portfolio review. So the girls kept coming by and looking over our shoulders at these art nudes we were carrying around and going "WOW! I'd LOVE something like that, how much do you charge?" LOL! My buddy (I was in his town so it was pointless to hand out my card) did get a few shoots out of it, and one of the girls was super thrilled because she apparently had a bunch of 8x10s of her picture made and would sell customers autographed 8x10s of my buddy's photo. Me: I just got drunk and had lots of nice lap-dances.

Shit man, that's hilarious.

Girls and their Ohh-Look-Perrty-Photos syndrome.

How much do regular models charge? I know the ones that go to art schools and pose for the figure drawing classes charge over $50 an hour, but I don't know about photography models, especially ones that pretty.

The art models like you'll get at a drawing class are around $50/hr. Really gorgeous models like the ones you see in my portfolio run about $100/hr. I've paid as high as $150/hr for one, once (and she was worth it).

That's an awful lot of money.

Do you sell your work for a living? I couldn't afford a model at that price, however deserving. ;_;

For now I'll just paint from photos and my head.

I make my living doing computer stuff. So the photography is what I do for fun.

I figure I used to know a guy who owned an $80,000 boat that mostly just sat in the water slowly turning green. Models are a lot prettier and much more fun, and a real deal compared to a boat. :)

:wow: Absolutely breathtaking! In my humble opinion... this is a true masterpiece and definitely my favourite of yours so far  I loved reading about how you were able to capture this moment... it's astounding, but don't sell your self short... it's not merely luck... you set up the lighting (which is perfect by the way), you created the atmosphere which made it possible for the model to be free and spontaneous enough for you to actually capture this moment in time... so congrats to you and Jessica and Laura...for making it happen and thank you so much for sharing  :+favlove:

Yet another reason to lament the lack of strip clubs at my current location. Being in this P.O.S. town is hampering my artistic endeavors. :P

Uhh, on a side note... this is a fantastic photograph, as are every other one in your DA gallery.
