I originally envisioned this shot as being much more complicated. The mental picture I had involved a black velvet-lined pool with a large scrim-holder over top, backlit with a set of reflectored hot lights. So, I built it (in my industrial shed) and it turned out that there wasn't enough light and the water was heart-stoppingly cold. I know, because I tried it. So then it evolved into "maybe let's shoot it outdoors" on a hot summer day. And the scrim gave way to a blue cloudless sky. Ultimately, what we wound up with was very very simple - and a good way to cool off.
