It reminds me of this manga, where Death wasn't supposed to take this dude's soul, but he did, so this higher being (Death's boss, so to speak) took away his epic looking scythe.
He replaced it with pink safety scissors.
So basically, Death was running around creepily, ghosting about…And trying to take people's souls with a pair of pink safety scissors.
It was epic.
