Lost Hands

An old experiment.

Model is Arielle Lee. This was shot in a parking garage in Washington, DC. Exposure times were long because the only light was a couple of flourescent emergency lights. So I experimented with having her move during the exposure, keeping one part of her body still and moving another.

The exposure was about 2 seconds in that light. So I had the camera on a tripod (immobile) and the model against a wall (stabilized her lower body). I had her start with her hands down by her side then told her "when I say 'go' move your hands up to your head" I hit the shutter button, then said 'go' - so the start position got maybe 1/2 second exposure, then there's the motion blur, and about 1 second exposure on the final position.
