Mjr and P-nut - 2 by mjranum Mjr and P-nut - 2 by mjranum
This is me! Clowning around on P-nut (the big brown guy!) My buddy Paul came up from Maryland with his D2X to play around in my studio and shoot some stock, so I saddled the 'nut up and managed to get into my chain mail. We trotted around in the rain for a while. The pasture where we were shooting is visible from one of the neighbors' yards, so they were looking over with big "WTF?!" expressions. Out here where I live everyone dresses in camouflage hunting gear and rides ATVs - I was just dressed in "old fashioned" hunting gear and riding an "old school" ATV.

I did learn one fun thing. Maybe you know this (or maybe you don't) but horses can see pretty much 360 degrees around them. P-nut had never had anyone on his back wearing a cloak, before, and when it first started fluttering behind me he did a very dramatic "HOLY WHAT IS THAT!?" kind of spin-about at a trot. I'm sure glad Paul didn't get a shot of my expression when that happened!

It was a good day.

is that the george cross?

:iconmjranum:

It's a templar cross, applied to my personal favorite colors: the red of rage and the black of despair. Back a long long time ago when I used to play role-playing games, one of my characters was the founder of an order of paladins and that was their colors/uniform. So when I used to play medieval reenactment, I had the outfits made.

They, uh, are a bit tight on me now.

It's hard to pose with P-nut. He's such a handsome guy he grabs all the attention.

So this horse walks into a bar, and the bartender asks, "why the long face?"

Glad to see you getting out and enjoying the day...pic captures the simple enjoyment and pleasure in the horse ride...like the cape...I like simple ren faire outfits the best..wash n wear...so no worries with all the dirt and dust that gets tracked up on em. Do you smith your own blades?

I always wanted to make blades but - no - it's very hard. And I've learned that you only get to be good at a few things in life. I spend my time elsewhere.

Are you dressed like a Teutonic Knight? Where did you get the outfit?

:iconmjranum:

Some of that is stuff I had in college - back around 1982. :) The rest is from Ebay. The teutonic knights wore black and white. But red and black (the colors of rage and despair) have always been my signature colors.

He knows better. :) When he was young he used to spook a lot. Now he's gotten very steady. Thanks to a couple of times where I convinced him that he should be more afraid of me than of whatever imaginary thing is chasing him. :)

Great pic (and I've just finished looking through your gallery of amazing work, too!) I'm "the wife" drultang is referring to... and I simply MUST add that *I* got the bow first, and after weeks of "Can I shoot your bow?" I bought him one to get him off my ass, LOL. They're a lot of fun, and if you DO decide to get one.... get some pictures of you shooting it! (I have a pic of me and mine in my gallery if you wanted to see one in action.)

sexy beast, part draft horse?
and yes, i did a drill with my horse that involved costume, and the long garment i attached to the saddle had the same effect. hehe.

He's a draft cross: percheron/suffolk. He's actually pretty small for a draft horse, but he looks big because he's built like a tank.

hmm, yeah, i would have thought something like percheron/quarter horse cause of his size. but yes, he is a tank! must be a fun guy :)

great picture and love the renn gear. The horse is beautiful.

If your really looking for a bow, both me and my wife have Hungarian horse bows that we love shooting. Fits right in with this image since they are authentic and were initially used on horseback. Tough to shoot but a lot of fun to do.

If your interested let me know and I can send you some information from the lady we picked the bow up from.

I've been hankering after a Grozer horse-bow for ages. They are works of art.

The crusaders weren't much for mounted archery and that's a modified templar's get-up I'm wearing in that shot. So if I got a horse-bow I'd need to work up a whole mongol outfit or I'd just feel silly. :)

LOL...good point.
I'll send you a link so that you can check out some of the cool bows that they offer. Hungarian and mongol are both offered and are absolutely beautiful.
