This is an example of "huge soft light" technique - her back was lit with a light bank (consisting of 4 softboxes pushed together and angled toward the center of her back) - the result is a reflection of the light-sources that is larger than her back; the camera records it as very even but contrasty light. Remember: most of the time when you think you are seeing "soft" light what you are actually seeing is a large reflection.
Beautiful matching of technique with subject! If you'd used a different contrasting light setup, I'm assuming that some of the ink might have been lost in shadows? Of course, without contrasting, you don't get a sense of the 3 dimensional form. Beautiful work, as always!
